If I could be a fluffy cloud -
I'd fly across the sky
And visit strange and distant lands
With plains and mountains high.
I'd bring some rain to hungry fields,
Give shade to weary souls,
Shield young lovers in my mist
And lead lost soldiers home.
I'd change my shape continuously
Now train, now boat, now plane,
To tease cloud-watching children
In the fields of summer grain. Summer Memory
Shouting
your name to the wind.
Building
castles on the sand.
Running
barefoot down the beach
Your sunhat in your hand.
Paddling
in a rock pool,
Catching
crabs along the shore.
A hazy summer memory
Of times long gone before. The First Sunflower
There once was a flower
so strange and so tall
Growing sadly in the shadow
of a garden wall.
She'd grown from a seed all stripey and brown
That a bird had brought over from a far off town.
One day she lifted her face to the sun
Crying: " Being so tall is not much fun-
All my friends are so much smaller you see,
What beauty is there in a flower like me?
I don't have perfume, I don't have grace
Just dowdy yellow petals and a big brown face."
"Oh no," said the sun" That's really not true,
In fact I do rely on you
To tell the world that summer is here
What would I do if you were to disappear?"
Then the sun kissed the face
of that flower forlorn,
And that is how, so they say,
The sunflower was born.
